Anchored consists of feathers cast in latex a material that signifies skin. Feathers are usually light enough to drift, but here they are fixed and held down by nails. The sculpture is an act of trying to pin something down that wants to be ephemeral, pin something in place that would otherwise drift by nature. The work moves between the desire to find signs and the knowledge that they cannot be proven. In holding the feathers in place, the work considers what it means to try to anchor an experience that remains in motion and what it feels like to be preoccupied with looking for signs someone who is gone is still somehow present.
