the unhheard becomes sounded 2018

3-hour recording of the breath in-between words, speaker elements, negative & positive cables
hand bound book, punctuation

This work used the text Mourning Diary by Roland Barthes, where I recorded myself reading the entire book aloud and removed all the words leaving only the sound of the breath in-between. The book itself was re-written without the words, leaving only the punctuation as the remaining signs of written language. This work drew attention to what is unsaid, the public performance of mourning, and the body that may be gasping for the first or last time.
